A Personal Attendant is an individual who is hired, trained, and supervised by a person with a disability (the consumer) to help with routines of daily living and other tasks they are unable to perform alone. A Personal Attendant can enable a person with a disability to reach a level of independence based on personal choices. Without the help of a personal attendant, many people with disabilities would be forced to live in a nursing home or other institution and would not be able to live in their own home.
