I have used NEILS' services for housing, transportation, budgeting, computers, and recreation. Before I had their services, I lived in the rural area of Shelbyville, MO. I was away from my family so I didn't get out much. NEILS helped me find an apartment in Hannibal and I am now closer to my brother. I do appreciate that help very much! I can go to a lot of places on my own because I live right down town. I also live right across the street from NEILS' new office which makes it very handy so I can come on over easier! I use the ILST program by learning some computer skills and typing skills. I do recreational events with Penny also. We have gone to see the Avenue of Lights, baseball games in Quincy, St. Louis Zoo, Swimming at Quincy's Indian Mound Pool, and exercising at the YMCA in Hannibal. They have helped me overcome my fear of water. I have been to the swimming pool and even on a boat in the Mississippi River--Something I didn't think would ever happen! They take me to attend disability events like the ADA Celebration and going to the Capitol! We also went to the MO State fair for people with disabilities. I have used their transportation services to go to the doctor. The staff at NEILS are very friendly and easy to get along with. I feel as if they are my friends.

In March of 2009, NEILS built a ramp off my front porch. Before this, I had to get into and out of my home with the assistance of ATV ramps that had plywood overlaid on the bars and two people to assist because they weren't stable enough not to slide and the incline was too steep to be safe. Now, I'm able to get on and off my front porch without the assistance of others and feel safe while doing it.

NEILS has been a tremendous help to me and without their services, I would be lost. My services began in February 2005. Before I received CDS (Consumer-Directed Services) it was very hard for me to get out of bed in the mornings and get going, hard to breathe or do anything. I would go without eating and my home was a wreck. My attendant keeps the home clean and in order and fixes meals. The TAP Telephone with large numbers makes it a lot easier for me to see the numbers to dial my family and friends. The loan equipment-shower bench, makes it so much easier for me to take a shower because I get dizzy quite often and now I can sit while I am taking a shower. NEILS assisted me with my utility bill one winter to keep my utilities on and without the assistance my water pipes would be broken and I would have been in a big mess and not able to pay to get them fixed. NEILS made my front steps to my home accessible. Before the steps were fixed, I had fallen 3-4 times. I couldn't go up and down the steps in the winter and it was a tragedy. The Circuit Breaker Services are a God send. I live on a fixed income and the services helps out greatly. I greatly appreciate all the serviecs from NEILS. My life has changed for the better.

I wanted to thank the N.E.I.L.S. organization, Gene Suddarth in particular, for his help in finding for me funding to fix my power wheelchair. I was at a loss because I had no means of paying for the repairs myself. He found for me an organization that gave out grants and I contacted them and with Gods grace did receive a grant for the repairs. To have the ability to get out in my community, which is a rural community with gravel roads without a power wheelchair is less than pleasant. Getting one more obstacle out of the way so I can enjoy life more abundantly. I just wanted to thank you for all your help in obtaining those repairs. God Bless

Sincerely,

B.G.

My experience with this stand up chair has been a great advantage. Shelves are no longer a problem or a discouraging thought. It has helped me pursue one of my dreams to open a custom car shop. The chair stands me up which makes working on engines easier to reach. The wheelchair puts 85% of my weight on my feet and helps strengthen the bones in my legs. This chair is a marvel of design and in standing.

Sincerely,

C.G.

Thank you and your staff for the circuit breaker service. You're organization is here to help disabled people like myself. I'm so thankful for your help and to have the services you have. Your staff is so understanding and pleasant with each and every one. Of course, Gene is such a fantastic person to work with!

Thank you again NEILS,

B.S.
